1. “I will have a cup of tea”, my father said, “because I am not hungry”.
Ans: My father said that he would have a cup of tea because he was not hungry.
2. Pamela said, “Man is mortal”.
Ans. Pamela said that man is mortal.
3. He said to me, “How long will you stay here?”
Ans. He asked me how long I would stay there.
4. The man said to the officer, “Please help me”.
Ans. The man requested the officer to help him.
5. She asked me, “Are you happy in your new job?”
Ans. She asked me if I was happy in my new job.
6. He remarked, “Two and two makes four.”
Ans. He remarked that two and two makes four.
7. “Don’t waste time”, the teacher said to the students.
Ans. The teacher advised the students not to waste time.
8. John said to his mother, “I shall go to bed now.”
Ans. John told his mother that he would go to bed then.
9. He said to me, “Let’s go home together.”
Ans. He proposed to me to go home together.
10. He said to me, “May you be happy.”
Ans. He wished me that I might be happy.
11. “You had better not leave your room unlocked”, said my friends.
Ans. My friends warned me not to leave my room unlocked.
12. The man said, “No, I refuse to confer guilt.”
Ans. The man empathically refused to confer guilt.
13. “If you don’t keep quiet I shall punish you”, he said to her in a calm voice.
Ans. He warned her calmly that he would punish her if she didn’t keep quiet.
14. “Are you alone, my son?” asked a soft voice close behind me.
Ans. A soft voice behind me asked if I was alone.
15. He said to her, “What a cold day!”
Ans. He exclaimed that it was a very cold day.
16. He exclaimed sadly that he was undone.
Ans. He said,”Alas! I am undone.”
17. Father said to me, “May you pass the examination.”
Ans. Father prayed that I might pass the examination.
18. The old man said to his son, “Fie! You are such a coward.”
Ans. The old man cried out in anger that it was shameful that his son was such a coward.
19. I said to him, “If I were you, I should wait.”
Ans. I advised him to stop the journey.
20. He said, “Don’t plug the flower.”
Ans. He told me not to plug the flower.
